PREMIER MIST SET NEW STANDARDS IN RESIDENTIAL FIRE TESTING

Premier Mist demonstrate further their position as Europe’s leading company in the development of low-pressure water mist systems, by surpassing all current residential fire test protocol at BRE Global in Watford.
Premier Mist is the first and only water mist company to successfully complete the new draft test protocol to BS 8458 for domestic and residential occupancies. The DualMIST™ system operating at only 5 bar pressure and discharging only 38 litres per minute per nozzle, comfortably passed all 5 stringent fire tests associated with the present draft BS standard.
The new protocol now includes an open area thus to warrant the system for areas that exceed the room/test enclosure size of the respective test structure. The Premier Mist system significantly out performs other mist manufacturers in actual fire test performance and is unquestionably superior to any BS 9251 sprinkler system, given its greater coverage with reduced flow rates.
Premier Mist completed the full series of BS fire tests using their DMCR-35 nozzle, within a test enclosure constructed to 10m x 5m, as to simulate a nozzle coverage of 25m2, Premier Mist are the only company in Europe who has successfully undertaken these tests with a system capable of such excessive parameters.
On completion of this series Premier Mist requested that their nozzle type DMCR35 be tested by BRE to simulate a 6m spacing, the systems performance was outstanding and a corner crib fire was suppressed to virtual extinguishment in less than 3 minutes.
Premier Mists managing director Peter Duval was highly delighted with the successful test series and thanked the development and fire test team at BRE for their assistance, he stated that “in residential terms, we are streets ahead of any other water mist provider and the system is emphatically superior to a standard residential sprinkler system, we carried out a number of discharge tests of sprinkler components during the test series and none of these components offered anywhere near the level of coverage/wall wetting than as evident with DualMIST™ indeed one of the most well used sprinkler heads was discharging at 1 bar 69 litres per minute almost double that of ours with far less coverage particularly to the walls and the critical corner/room area. We have further testing planned with BRE at levels of 7m and hope to further demonstrate our superiority over sprinklers for commercial areas”.

DualMIST EDA PROVES SUPERIOR TO CONVENTIONAL (BS 12845) SPRINKLERS IN HIGH LEVEL FIRE TESTING
Premier Mists chief executive Peter Duval was highly delighted but unsurprised by the test outcome and stated “This test series prevailed the clear need for stringent analysis of all types of fire suppression against actual fires and no longer should the industry relay on the aged old calculation of water density, DualMIST using significantly less water was able to effect a comparative but some in respects an enhanced outcome to that of the specified sprinkler system, reduction of heat within the burn hall was in my opinion the most compelling difference between the systems”.
Premier mist in conjunction with the Building Research Establishment (BRE GLOBAL), London Fire Service (LFB) and Kier Construction Group participated in the comparative fire testing of DualMIST and Conventional Sprinklers to Ordinary Hazard 2.
The parties developed a fire test thus designed to establish the suitability of Premier Mists DualMIST water mist system for inclusion within appliance bays, such tests demonstrated that Premier Mists EDA system was more effective than a standard wet sprinkler system for the intended application this was validated and recorded by the BRE. The fire tests were undertaken within BREs burn hall with the ceiling height set at 6.9 meters and a fire loading of around 7MW. The LFB, are very proactive and supportive of water mist but needed assurance of suitability by their insistence of such stringent testing ahead of agreeing to vary from the specified sprinkler system.
This experimental programme included the fire testing of Premier Mists automatic and EDA systems and an automatic BS 12845 Sprinkler system. All 3 systems attained the test pass/fail criteria, incorporating both rapid air movement and mild conditions but EDA proved most effective overall particularly in respect to high level heat reduction thus preventing flash over and protecting the building structure.
